It’s officially HOT / warm, everybody!
We had consistent snowstorms this past winter here in New York City. All of the sudden, the weather climbed up to 90 degrees and I can’t help but to think about what kind of skincare we’re all going to use this Spring/Summer season. So today, I’m going to discuss top recommendations for when you’re swapping out your heavy-duty products for lightweight ones.
CREAMS & MOISTURIZERS— This is probably the first product that comes to mind when you’re making the switch. Right now, you still might be using heavy creams with *thick AF* sleeping masks on top of that—which is another item that’ll be discussed. I recommend storing your heavy cream away and opting for a lightweight calming cream, like A.True’s Spring Green Tea Watery Calming Cream. It’s formulated with Green Tea + 70% Black Tea Water, which is filled with antioxidants that help fight off free radicals. For those of you with oily/combo skin, this is a dream for your face. It’s good for daytime as it sits seamlessly below makeup, and it’s great for nighttime as well.
SLEEPING MASKS— Probably your favorite step of your nighttime skincare routine. It just seals in all your hard work and ensures your skin doesn’t run low on its moisture tank throughout the night. We’ve noticed a lot of you have been using Cosrx’s honey overnight mask or its rice counterpart, and while those can still be great choices for the Spring/Summer, it might sit a bit heavy for oily/combo skin. For you special unicorns, I recommend BRTC’s Jasmine Waterful Sleeping Mask. Before we get to its good qualities, I just want to point out that it does contain silicon for easy spreadability. However, having used this personally many times, it hasn’t caused me any reactions. Of course, this can vary on everybody. Anyways, when I put this on, it gives me a sense of achievement… I start with cleanser, toner, then work my way up with serum, moisturizer and oil… then I am at the finish line with this sleeping mask. As I spread an even layer on my face, I notice water drops forming and eager to seep into my skin. I “gently massage to aid in absorption” and I’m left with a smooth, just-plain-radiant complexion. Best part is that it doesn’t feel heavy throughout the night. When I wake up, my skin still feels moisturized and refreshed… It actually feels so good that I’m totally ok with not washing my face for a hot minute.
SHEET MASKS— A well deserved treat. If you have severely dry skin even in the summer, keep using your fave sheet masks that are drenched in heavy, milk-like essence. For those of us that are looking to cool down some hot cheeks, I recommend thin sheet masks laced with lighter, refreshing essences. Great ones to stock up on would be Hello Skin’s Jumiso line. It comes in “Whoa Whoa Soothing” (black), “Chewy Elasticity” (red), “Rich Nourishment” (pink), “First Skin Brightening” (white) and “Water Splash” (gray). The “Water Splash” mask is my personal fave for turning sun-dehydrated skin to supple with a perfect amount of hydration.
Another great mask that’s a must-have for post sun-filled activities is Ultru’s I’m Sorry For My Skin SOS Jelly Mask in “Soothing.” It contains all the necessary ingredients such as Broccoli Extract, Evening Primrose Extract and Cocoa Extract to calm red, irritated and parched skin.
SUNSCREENS— You can’t argue that sunscreen is the one of the most important parts of your skincare routine (especially during Spring & Summer). If you’re looking for a reliable sunscreen that helps to calm redness, check out Cosrx’s Aloe Soothing Sun Cream. This is formulated with SPF 50+ / PA+++ as well as Aloe Extract to protect your skin against UVA/UVB rays while soothing and cooling off irritations.
