Ingredient Spotlight: Rose Water

One of the most iconic symbols of all time. The rose embodies grace, love, gentleness, beauty, passion, and romance. Its delicate, precise, and illustrious reputation, along with its timeless elegance, makes this ruby floral loved by one and all. It’s only right that its aesthetic counterpart, Rose Water, follows suit.

HISTORY

Rose Water, also known as Rosa Damascena or Damask Rose, originated in Persia (modern-day Iran). It is said to have been discovered in the 10th century when the cultivation of fragrant flowers for perfumes was taking flight. One of its well noted references dates back to early Egypt where Cleopatra would soak in aromatic baths filled with rose petals. Rose Water’s significance in cultures is vast and wide. It is used in religious ceremonies, as a culinary ingredient, and as a medical remedy.

SKINCARE

The benefits of Rose Water are endless. Literally. It is anti-inflammatory, therapeutic, soothing, antibacterial, anti-aging and moisturizing (just to list a few). This blushing floral has become a personal care staple as it can treat a wide range of concerns.

It is known to reduce hyperpigmentation, soothe irritations, balance the skin’s pH level, promote intense hydration and detoxify the skin by restoring and strengthening its outer most layer. It also helps manage persistent acne and eczema symptoms, and boasts anti-aging properties.

HAIRCARE

… Just when you think it can’t get any better. This majestic ingredient stimulates the scalp, hydrates dry hair, promotes growth, and curbs dandruff. Just as it does for the skin, Rose Water similarly strengthens and nourishes the hair and scalp, helping to control excess oils and maintain the scalp’s pH balance. It is a good source of flavonoids and tannins, and it also has Vitamins A, C, D, E, and B3.

THE LONG AND SHORT

Maybe the fountain of youth springs from a well filled with Rose Water. With all its uses and benefits, Rose Water has earned its right as a staple ingredient in our everyday lives. Just the scent of rose can help de-stress our bodies and calm our minds. All in all, Rose Water is one of nature’s finest that saves the day every, single, time.
